Why photographers love working with wedding planners and designers

It’s probably no secret that photographers love working with wedding planners, and I encourage every couple I work with to hire a planner. I consider planners the angels of the wedding industry—they’re the ones who save the day and save the rest of us from disaster! They’re essential vendors to hire, and here’s why photographers love working with them…

      01. They keep things in order

Planners are planners for a reason: They’re incredibly talented at keeping things organized, structured, and running smoothly. Your wedding day is a day you’ll cherish for life, and after the months you’ll spend planning it, you’ll want things to go as planned.

Hiring a planner is the best way to ensure your day will be stress-free and just as you imagined it. Photographers love a wedding day well-planned and organized, because it keeps the chaos at bay and enables us to capture the day as best we can.

And when you’re choosing your wedding planner, ask to see samples of their previous wedding timelines and proposals, so you know what sort of detail and organization you can expect.

      02. They work with the photographers to follow a timeline

Elaborating on the point above, planners know the importance of sticking to a timeline, and they know why the timeline is so important to each vendor. For photographers, the timeline is crucial because it takes into account when the light will be best for photos.

Planners and photographers work together to make sure we’ll get your photos taken in the best possible light of the day—that lovely, golden light you dream of.

      03. They’ll think of things no one else will

Wedding planners have a wealth of experience and will know how to plan and prepare for your day like no one else will. No Pinterest board, wedding blog, or magazine can give you all that a planner can.

Working with a planner will save you from any surprises on your wedding day, making it a much more enjoyable experience for you and your guests. And they can also provide information to us photographers as well—such as last-minute changes to the timeline or program. This enables us to never miss a moment of your day.

      04. As designers, they’ll create a masterpiece

Wedding planners will take your ideas and translate them into a cohesive, beautiful masterpiece. And they’ll work hard to create something that represents and reflects you as a couple.

Photographers rejoice at the sight of a wedding well-designed! Our goal is always to capture your day and tell your story, and when we see that the day has been uniquely and beautifully designed just for you, it makes our job extra fun. Because when the day is designed well, your images will not only look more cohesive and lovely, but the design will represent you.

When considering a designer to hire, choose one with a diverse portfolio so you know you won’t be getting a “cookie-cutter” wedding. Ask to see their previous mood boards and design proposals so you know what to expect. Look for a designer who will give you a completely bespoke design.

My friends at Willow & Oak do this beautifully. Their portfolio page demonstrates a mixture of pigment, texture, and mood. They give each couple a customized design that reflects their style perfectly.

      05. They’ll give you peace of mind—and that will translate to your photos

Above all, working with a planner will give you immense peace of mind. You’ll feel much more at ease on your wedding day, and you’ll be able to enjoy and savor every moment.

This relaxed state will translate into your photos as well. You’ll be able to feel at ease as we take photos, knowing your guests are being cared for and the day is running smoothly. And, above all, it gives us photographers such joy to see our couples glowing, happy, and relaxed on their wedding day. Planners make that their job.
