How to Find Your Wedding Style

      01. Browse for inspiration, but set a limit

There’s nothing wrong with scrolling through wedding blogs and Pinterest for inspiration. But you need to really limit yourself. Take the few first weeks of your engagement and collect things that inspire you, but then try to take a step back.

When I was engaged, I found the endless amounts of ideas almost paralyzing. It became difficult to determine what my style and what wasn’t. So re-pin or save the ideas that initially stand out, but then look elsewhere for ideas. Which leads me to…

      02. Seek inspiration outside of the wedding world

Spend some time together as a couple doing something you really enjoy, and intentionally look for sources of inspiration. Visit an art museum and take note of color palettes and textures you like. Re-visit or reminisce about a favorite place you traveled to and see if there are any elements you can bring into your wedding.

Flip through art books, design magazines, travel magazines, or whatever you fancy! But think outside the box and get creative. It will be refreshing to intake new ideas from places other than the wedding world.

      03. Think about what represents you as a couple

A wedding day should—above anything else—reflect you as a couple. It should tell your own narrative and celebrate your life together so far and the life you’ll grow in the future.

Make a list of experiences or events that you’ve shared: How did you meet? Where was your first date? Do you have a favorite film or musician? Do you share a common dream you hope to one day achieve?

Think about what makes you unique as a couple, and introduce those elements into the style of your wedding.

      04. Keep it simple, refined, and true to you

Above all, your wedding day should feel like “you.” It should be an extension of you as a couple.

But there’s no need to overdo it. Keeping your wedding style simple and refined will keep the focus where it belongs: on your marriage.

So go get inspired! Enjoy creating a wedding day for you and your guests to remember. But relax and find beauty in the simplicity as well.
