How to find your dream destination wedding venue for your destination wedding in Europe

Choosing a wedding venue for your destination wedding is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your big day. It has the most profound impact, as it sets the tone and atmosphere for the rest of the day.

But this can also be a difficult decision—especially when you’re doing it from afar. To help ease the struggle, I’ve gathered five top tips for finding your perfect destination wedding venue in Europe.

      01. Hire a planner who knows the area

I would strongly recommend hiring a wedding planner who knows the area in which you’re getting married. Wedding planners are angels when it comes to making sure your wedding day runs as smoothly as possible! They can make suggestions specific to your dreams, needs, and overall vision for your day.

And if they’re based in Europe, that’s a huge plus! They’re easily able to jump on a train or plane to make multiple site visits, get to know the venue management, and keep you in the loop so you can feel confident going into your wedding day.

      02. Make a site visit, if possible

If your budget and calendar allow for it, make site visits to the venues you’re considering. You’ll be able to see the area, get a feel for the ambience, and meet the management of the venue.

All these elements have a huge impact on the overall flow of your day, so it would be extremely advantageous to see it in person for yourself before making your final decision.

      03. Consider proximity to an international airport

When many of your guests will be flying in from overseas, it’s important to consider how far away the venue is from the closest international airport. Some of your guests may not be as comfortable traveling internationally, so do a little research to learn how accessible it is, and how easy it will be for guests to find.

If you’ll be having a more intimate wedding, you have a bit more freedom to choose a more remote venue. But make sure to think through these details ahead of time, as it will make for a much more enjoyable experience for you guests.

      04. Consider local accommodations

Research where the nearest hotels are and how easy it will be for your guests to return to their accommodations after the wedding.

Many manor homes and chateaus provide beautiful guest rooms for the bridal party and family, so if you’re interested in a weekend-long stay, keep that in mind as you search for your perfect venue.

      05. Go with your gut

Above all, how does the place make you feel? Does it tick the practical boxes? And the dream boxes?

Your wedding venue sets the tone for your whole wedding day, providing the atmosphere to carry you and your guests through your destination experience. So it’s of utmost importance that you truly love the place and that it feels a bit like a home away from home.

So do your research, make your pros and cons lists, and crunch the numbers. But in the end, go for the one that makes your heart flutter and feels like the perfect place to begin your life together.
