explore by destination
Planning a destination wedding when you’re also trying to balance everything else in life is not easy! And picking a photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make, because they’re the ones who will capture the day you spent all that time planning and dreaming about. So to help you make the decision, I’ve gathered my top tips for helping you pick your destination wedding photographer.
The first tip I have for you, is to consider overall style. Think about your personal style and the overall style you’re aiming for on your wedding day and then match that with a photographer. Different photographers have different styles: Some have darker, moody, and more golden aesthetic. And others, like me, have a more bright and airy vibe.
Consider which style you like, what will work well in your home, and what works with your overall personal style and match the photographer’s style to that.
Also, the venue you choose will impact the overall aesthetic as well, so think about that style and pick a photographer based on that. And if you have a planner, you can talk to them about this as well. They’ll help you find a photographer that matches your style.
My next tip for you, is if you’re not going with a local photographer, make sure you pick a photographer who is comfortable traveling. Traveling is an acquired skill, so make sure you pick someone who’s confident and up for the challenge of traveling to your wedding.
Sometimes destination weddings are in more remote locations, so it’s helpful to have someone who’s more confident in navigating those situations.
Of course, this isn’t a must, but it’s just one extra thing to keep in mind that will help give you peace of mind about the overall flow of your wedding day.
My next tip for you is to consider booking someone who’s already based in Europe. Of course, this isn’t a must, but just keep in mind that when you’re planning a destination wedding in Europe, it’s helpful to have someone who is already familiar with Europe and navigating their way around.
They’ll also have a lot of connections and helpful tips when you’re planning your wedding. And in the worst case scenario, if there are any flight cancellations or weather issues, it’s possible for photographers in Europe to still get to your wedding in time. (They can catch another flight or even drive through the night and still make it in time).
Choosing a photographer in Europe is just one more thing to keep in mind that will help your day run smoothly.
Last but not least—and arguably the most important—is pick a photographer you connect with, because the overall result of your images are going to be affected by how you connect with your photographer. So you want to pick someone you feel comfortable with.
The “why” statement behind my business is that I want to inspire people to see their beauty and feel at home in themselves. And that “feeling at home” part only happens when I have a true connection with a couple.
So make sure you get that with the photographer you’re considering. Because when you’re flying to a destination you’re not super familiar with and it’s not home, you’re going to want someone who can make you feel at home—who can make you feel settled in your own skin and who can welcome you like an old friend.
So connection is another thing to consider—you just want to connect with the photographer above anything else.
So there you have it! Those are my top tips for picking the best possible destination wedding photographer for you. I hope you found this helpful! If you have any questions about finding your destination wedding photographer, please do reach out. I’d love to hear from you!
