Back in July, I joined Alexis of Willow & Oak Events to visit The Lost Orangery at Euridge Manor, a Cotswolds wedding venue nestled in the countryside. On the day we visited, it rained cats and dogs—abnormal for a land that usually just gets a light, misty drizzle. I worried our three hour drive from London would be for nothing. But to our delight, the rains cleared just as we arrived. And, oh my, was it a sight to be seen.
There to welcome us was a terrier named Biggles, the loyal guard dog. He eagerly met us at the car, as if he himself had been expecting us. Alice, who manages the property, soon came out to greet us and invited us to follow her.
We walked from the parking lot through a dark tunnel, and as we stepped back into the light, I felt I had stepped into a fairytale storybook. A grand terrace covered in flowers overlooked an aqua pool. A boat house with row boats was at the end of the pool, and beyond it, the rolling hills of the Cotswolds went as far as the eye could see. It was breathtaking.
Around every corner was a new treasure: a water fountain, castle ruins, a trellis covered in ivy, a chandelier hanging in a stone archway, another perfectly-manicured garden. Alexis described it well when she said we were like two kids in a candy store. We were both giddy the whole time.
The Lost Orangery is a dream venue for couples looking for a quintessentially-English venue with some added one-of-a-kind features. Here’s how to know if it’s the perfect destination wedding venue for you:
I’ve never seen a venue so elegant yet so whimsical. Walking through this property was like stepping into the Alice in Wonderland storybook. It’s full of roses, fountains, chandeliers, and archways. It blends together a perfect mixture of delicate features and fairytale-like charm.
The Lost Orangery is a photographer’s playground. There are so many beautiful spots for photos—gardens, staircases, row boats, castle ruins, columns, arches… I could go on. It also offers several great photo locations for rainy days, which is a huge plus considering England’s rainy reputation.
The English are known for their gardens. And the one at The Lost Orangery lives up to the standard. It’s right out of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden, and it’s certainly worthy of Monty Don’s attention! Every inch of this place is covered in blooms and ivy. You and your guests will love exploring the grounds and taking in the aromas of the perfectly-manicured gardens.
While still providing a quintessential English charm, The Lost Orangery stands out from other venues in the countryside. Its unique water features, spectacular gardens, and jaw-dropping views of the Cotswolds landscape will make for a truly unforgettable experience for you and your guests.
A massive thank you to The Lost Orangery for welcoming us to this beautiful Cotswolds wedding venue. And thank you to Willow & Oak Events for inviting me along on the tour.
