On a beautiful spring day, after exploring the palace interiors, I roam around the sprawling estate gardens of Chateau de Versailles. According the official website, the gardens span 800 hectares and took over 40 years to design and create. What’s more, the garden are redone every 100 years to maintain their splendor and continue to thrive.
During my day at Versailles, I toured both the interior and grounds of the palace all in one visit. However, due to the sheer scale and beauty of the gardens, I’d recommend splitting your visit into two days. You can purchase separate tickets, then you can take your time savoring each part of the palace.
For those wanting more exclusive access to the grounds, I highly recommend booking a stay at the luxurious Airless Château de Versailles. Guests have access to a private entrance to the palace grounds, directly into the Orangerie. They hotel also offers the use of golf carts—certainly the best way to explore the full estate.
