Ethereal Elopement in Provence

Prior to arriving for their destination elopement, Ellie and Jack had never been to Provence. Based in Chicago and as laidback as they come, the pair dreamed of a wedding that would be more of an adventure than a traditional celebration. And when they stumbled upon the beauty of lavender season in Provence, they knew it would be the perfect place. They booked a suite at Airelles Bastide de Gordes—one of Provence’s best hotels—they booked their flights, and they made their dream come true.
Months later, on a hot July day, they exchanged vows in a private ceremony in the gardens of Bastide de Gordes. Aside from Ellie and Jack themselves, just two others were present: My husband Timm officiating; and myself with the camera. It was an incredibly sweet time both for the couple, of course, but also for Timm and I to get to serve them together. Ellie and Jack laughed until they cried and cried until they laughed. They were so at ease with each other, so filled with joy. It was beautiful to witness.
After their intimate ceremony—and a toast of champagne, of course—we headed to nearby lavender fields for the dreamiest sunset portraits. Ellie and Jack ended the evening with a meal at L’Orangerie with spectacular views of the hazy Luberon Valley. The perfect end to a perfect day.
